Fernwood Cove – 7/23Posted by on July 24, 2016

Saturday’s Blog was written by 6th Grade Buncle and Sailing Counselor, Will.

Another exceptional day here at Fernwood Cove with laughs and smiles all around as the first full day of focuses went underway. Many girls woke up before reveille so that they could go and find out their scheduled activities for the week, which were posted outside of the Chick. Flag raising was held as usual with many announcements from counselors about what campers needed to bring for their first day of focuses and a happy birthday was wished to Daley Baker in 7th grade who turned 13 today.

After another outstanding breakfast, prepared by Kieth and our wonderful kitchen staff, which was hurriedly eaten by counselors and campers to ensure they had enough energy for the days activities, the girls then went on to assembly which is hosted by our Seniors. The day is split up into three sets of focuses in the morning and three in the afternoon, each focus is 55 minutes long with 10 minutes in between to allow girls time to move to different locations in camp. After lunch we had an hour of rest where the girls go back to their bunks to relax and catch up with each other and their counselors.

Unfortunately in the afternoon bad weather started to roll in and multiple strikes of lightning and thunder were seen and heard which was bad news for anyone down on the waterfront as whenever a storm is near by and thunder is heard everyone must evacuate the water and cannot return until there has been no more thunder heard for a minimum of 30 minutes. This didn’t dampen the spirits of the campers however as our wonderful counselors led games on land that were aligned with the activity they were supposed to be doing in the water.

After a Fernwood Cove favorite for dinner of hot dogs and chili, the evening program for today was outdoor age group activities. All age groups joined forces together to do a variety of activities such as scavenger hunts, kick ball, sand castle building and outdoor games. No noise was heard on the bunk line this evening as all the girls were well and truly tired, so all got an early night’s sleep to go at tomorrows activities with even more energy than today!
