Fernwood Cove is located on 220 wooded acres including 60 open acres of playing fields and meadows fronting on a sparkling lake. Twelve miles of bike/horseback riding trails wind through our woods. With the shoreline property and "lean to", we have overnights for our younger campers right on our property. Benefiting from a well-planned layout established by Camp Chickawah in 1920, Fernwood Cove has refurbished the bunks and historic buildings and added many new ones. Many of our buildings and facilities can be seen on our campus map.
The summer home for campers is one of 19 spacious cabins, all close to each other. None of the camper cabins have electricity. Some of the bunks have a bathroom and sink room, while others have a beautiful view of the waterfront and share a bathhouse not far from the bunks. All buildings at Fernwood Cove have been given bird names.
The Health Care Center (the Nightingale), the main lodge (the Chick), the dining hall (the Feeder) as well as three large shower facilities (the Rubber Duck, the American Dipper and the Birdbath) are minutes from the cabins, and laundry is done weekly for all campers and staff. The beautiful dining hall provides family-style meals, including a breakfast bar of fruit, granola and yogurt at breakfast time and a salad bar at lunch and some dinners.
Facilities for activities include:
Five tennis courts, three are lit for night play.
Sports Fields include: one soccer field, softball field, basketball court and a beach volleyball court.
A 5400 sq. foot, Olympic sized gymnastics facility.
A beach front dance studio with a view of the lake.
A stable, riding ring and many trails on our land for trail rides.
A beautiful sandy beach area for swimming, small craft boating activities, and wake boarding and water skiing.
Two arts buildings which include separate space for photography, ceramics, arts and crafts, sewing and painting.
A dining hall, the Feeder, which seats all campers and counselors together for at each meal.
The main lodge, the Chick, which includes a theater, dressing rooms, theater prop rooms, digital photography studio, staff room, and a fireplace
