PEFORMING ARTS
In Fernwood Cove’s performing arts program, campers have the opportunity to express themselves through dance, drama, music and singing. Fernwood Cove also offers more athletic performance options such as, gymnastics and cheerleading.
Fernwood Cove counselors bring a wealth of knowledge and experience with them to camp. Many counselors are current students or recent graduates of performing arts programs and have prior experience instructing youth in their respective disciplines. Our dance, gymnastics and cheerleading counselors have advanced level experience which often includes competitive and nationally recognized training.
Dance
Dancers of all ages and abilities are able to take dance classes in traditional classes like ballet, tap and jazz. The Fernwood Cove dance program also offers a variety of non-traditional options including disco, Latin and street dancing. Dance classes are organized by age or ability to ensure appropriate level instruction for all campers. Campers are able to learn technique involved with the style of dance while learning a performance piece that will be showcased at the weekly Performance Night. The dance program also offers a variety of aerobics classes for campers who want to learn about fitness and stay in shape while at camp.
Gymnastics
Campers of all ability levels will be able to perfect their gymnastic skills in our state-of-the-art gymnastics facility. Counselors will safely guide campers as they develop skills on the vault, balance beam, uneven bars and tumbling floor. Campers are able to progress at their own rate and more advanced campers are able to concentrate their skill development on one or two areas.
Drama
The drama department provides campers with the opportunity to develop stage presence and self-confidence through a variety of drama related activities. Younger campers are able to explore being on stage through our drama games and drama scripted classes. Older campers can develop their acting skill through a variety of activities including improvisational, monologue, and scripted drama classes. Campers are encouraged to show their acting skills and talents during Performance Night each week.
Musical Theater
The Musical Theater program combines music, theater and dance and gives campers the opportunity to experience the camp version of Broadway. Previous Musical Theater productions include “Annie,” “The Wizard of Oz,” and “Grease.” Older campers are able to participate in the longer, three-week production. Our one-week “mini musicals” allow our younger campers to experience the musical theater program without having to commit to the three-week time requirement for the larger production. Campers who are interested in participating in the musical theater productions participate in auditions during the first few days of camp.
Theater Crew
Campers who would like to participate in the musical theater program, but don’t wish to be part of the cast can be a member of the theater crew. Theater crew members design and produce the backdrop and props for the musical theater productions. Crew members are also responsible for the entire behind the scenes movement of props and stage preparation during musical theater performances.
Vocal Theater
Singing is an integral part of each day at camp, but there are campers who wish to take their singing at camp to the next level. Vocal theater is the activity these campers are looking for. Vocal theater gives campers the opportunity to learn the basics of reading music, prepare a song for performance and perform the chosen song during our weekly Performance Night. Campers are able to sing solo or in small groups and can choose from a wide variety of songs- all of which are camp appropriate.

Guitar
Guitar is for those campers who would like to experience the music world, but prefer the instrumental side of performing on the stage. The guitar program offers campers of all abilities and ages to learn guitar skills and techniques while learning a song which is performed during Performance Night. The guitar program focuses largely on acoustic playing, with the campers performing in small groups. Campers are also able to use their new guitar skills to accompany campfire and other camp songs.
