Fernwood Cove – 7/31Posted by Beigette Gill on August 01, 2016
Sunday’s Blog was written by 4th Grade Bunk Mom and Fabric Arts Counselor, Manon.
The girls woke up to a slightly colder morning today which was a slow start (for my 4th graders anyway) as their warm, cozy beds seemed much more appealing. However, Maine did not fail to disappoint as the sun slowly came out turning it into a perfect day to lay in the grass, making shapes out of the clouds.
Second day of week two focuses carried on smoothly with a letter writing rest hour allowing all the girls to write home about their exciting new week. The afternoon continued to be extremely sunny and a light breeze making it a perfect day for outdoor activities. Dinner came around fast with gourmet sandwich Sunday becoming a Fernwood Cove favorite with a selection of meats and salad fillings creating a ‘make your own’ buffet for the girls.
Excitement filled the cove when the EP was announced after dinner. Miss Fernwood Cove is a special camp tradition when the girls have the opportunity to dress up their Bunk Uncle as a girl. Wigs, painted nails, make up, dresses, bras, accessories. Everything and anything from the girls’ bunks is thrown at a man in 15 minutes. Now you must be thinking “poor guy” however once they step on stage they fall into a character they never knew they had inside. They love it! All the boys put on a brilliant performance which had all of us in tears of laughter. The highlight of the night was a special appearance from the one and only Jim Gill. He very kindly filled in for the 4th grade bunk, Puffin, who does not have a bunk uncle this summer. Jim Gill strutted his stuff in a flowing skirt, fitting vest and scarf. Going on to win Miss Congeniality. Best hair went to 7th grade, for their beautiful matching green wigs. Best talent went to 6th grade for their amazing dance performance, featuring pink tutus and black leotards. But the award everyone had been waiting for, the title of Miss Fernwood Cove went to 8th and 9th grade, for their extraordinary performance of ‘A Whole New World’ from Aladdin.
A perfect way to end a perfect day at Fernwood Cove. Full of happiness and laughter.
