Fernwood Cove – 8/5Posted by on August 06, 2015

Wednesday’s Blog was written by Theater Counselor and 5th Grade Bunk Mom, Bryce.

Hello Cove Family. Bryce Gudelsky here. Today was an extraordinary day.

After Flag Raising, we went into the feeder and found out we had french toast sticks for breakfast! And I love the kids and staff members that sat at my table.

Leaving breakfast, I headed to my bunk , Sparrow, and helped with clean up. Which lead us to a perfect 20 in our clean up score! I was so proud of my girls for putting in so much work.

For my first focus I have my admin focus which is a planning period for activities. 2nd focus we had our acapella group named Cove-capella. The girls sounded great and we are ready for the inter-camp competition tomorrow. The girls have worked so hard and are more than ready to take the stage. 3rd focus was the one week musical activity. This week’s musical was Matilda. Matilda is one of my favorite musicals and I was more than happy to hear that we picked it for the one week musical.

At lunch we changed tables and it was a very entertaining to talk to people I didn’t know that well. Moving on to focus 4, I had reading under the tree. I forgot how relaxing and focused you get during reading under the tree. I finished sewing bows for acapella in the focus for the competition. 5th focus I went to woodworking and carved out my name in wood and sanded it to perfection. It was so cool to try something new and outside my comfort zone. And finally finishing out the activities was our 3 week musical, Shrek. I taught the choreography for the show and we worked on two numbers today. The girls look fantastic as we are going into our last week of rehearsals.

During shower/dip I rehearsed with the acapella group and the cheerleaders to get ready for tonight’s evening program, Performance Night! At Dinner, we had hot dogs and it was very sunny. Performance Night is something I look forward to every week. I get to see how the girls progress through each week and improve during performances. It’s the best feeling in the world when they’ve achieved a goal they have been working towards and share it in front of the whole camp.

Something I learn is that if you come to camp with a sibling, you become closer and learn more about each other. You look out for each other and camp brought my sister and I closer, working alongside her. It’s where we grew up and it’s where we find ourselves so we can bring the lessons we’ve learned at camp and bring it to the ordinary world.
