Fernwood Cove – 8/3Posted by Beigette Gill on August 04, 2016
Wednesday’s Blog was written by 3rd Grade Bunk Mom and Jewelry Counselor, Lauren.
As the trumpet sang out its cheerful reveille on this slightly chilly morning, the children hesitated for only a second before jumping out of their beds after a refreshing night of sleep from the trip’s that they went on yesterday. With a new excitement for their second to last day of activities for the week, it seemed as if everyone had a spring in their steps as there were plenty of smiling faces at flag raising, just in time for the sun to come out! With everyone expecting a scorcher of a day, a hearty breakfast of: Scrambled eggs, turkey sausages and toast would definitely help keep those brain cells working throughout the first three focuses of the day. As for myself, a good breakfast is a life saver when it comes to teaching for the morning!
With all the great activities for the kids to participate in, whether it be: wall climbing, archery, pajama shorts, outdoor cooking and so much more, I personally loved welcoming all of the children for the first three focuses of Jewelry where I taught a mix of, metal smithing (mainly finishing off projects and starting either a bracelet or ring) and advanced jewelry (starting and finishing off a copper metal stamped necklace.)
As lunch approached, the scorcher of a day that we were promised became a reality which motivated the children to be even more excited for the activities they had in the afternoon. Lunch was a delightful favorite of the cove as we all tucked into some chicken pot pie with green beans and sliced carrot’s. With full bellies and plenty of water, the children were ready to take on the rest of their day with a spring in their step and a smile bright enough to light up the whole cove!
I personally looked forward to teaching the children who took my classes of basic jewelry – ribbon bracelets – and metal smithing. I don’t know if it was because of trip day yesterday or if it was just something in the wind but there seemed to be a certain buzz around camp and the enthusiasm that came off of the children was great to see!
After what I can say was one of the quickest days of activities of the session, everyone was ready for dinner – another camp favorite – Wing Wednesday! With two tables with bread and plenty of fluff to be spread!
Tonight’s EP was a first for me, and possibly a new favorite – Stoopin’ it! Now, you’re all probably wondering what on earth stoopin’ it is and I can tell ya’ll now that it is super fun. Here’s the low down: there are loads of activities that get scattered around camp from holding the bunnies to building sand castles on the beach at the waterfront to tennis and so much more, my personal favorite was playing tennis with my fellow counselors and campers (even though we weren’t that great at it, the team spirit and support was massive and really great to be a part of.)
It seemed like EP ended way to soon as the bells signaled the end to a great night. Call to quarters brought with it a new night of fun though as the bunk circle hummed with excitement of what happened during the day and stories of what each child’s favorite part of the day was spoken about to their peers. The bunk circle ended with a quick game of ‘wink sleeper’ – a game in which a detective goes to the other side of the bunk when someone else gets picked to be a wink sleeper and the detective comes in and tries to catch the wink sleeper out. After five minutes of reading, the children were asked to turn all lights off as it was time to go to sleep.
With dreams awaiting them of the days ahead, another perfect night ended at the extraordinary world that is, Fernwood Cove.
