Mini Course MondayPosted by on August 10, 2016

Reveille rings, another beautiful day at Fernwood Cove. The sun is shining which means we are all shining too! Breakfast today was a FC favorite, PANCAKES! We all head straight down to the Chick after breakfast to show off our Mini Courses for Mini Course Monday. There was frog catching with Jim, Australian Rules football, Polaroid picture charms, Music Appreciation and many more exciting new activities. Mini Course Monday is a day where they have the choice of a completely different activity for evening program. I think it’s an amazing chance for the girls to try new things with different kids and counselors from different age groups. We offer a mixture of things from arts to sports to cooking, so it counters for each and every one of the girls. What I also like about Mini Course Monday is that it gives the councilors a chance to also teach something new… and trust me, we get just as excited as they do!

It was also Mexican Monday, definitely one of my favorite days of the week. All of our kitchen staff are Mexican themselves, so you can only imagine how delicious all the food tastes! Make your own fajitas are a HUGE hit, it sure is a meal where you have to communicate non-stop. ‘Can you please pass me the tortillas, cheese, guacamole, chicken, salsa, sour cream….’ The list goes on. I love this meal as it creates this homely feel. The feeder is roaring with laughs and conversations and then the churros come out for desert… the noise levels definitely lower once they have reached the table!

Today was also one of those days where I looked around and realized just how beautiful this place is, I found myself just sitting and smiling. Not just at the nature but at the smiles on everyone else’s faces around me. This place is just so contagious in every way possible. Even in our counselor meeting today, the vibes were so high and there was nothing but pure goodness being thrown around the room. Every day is a good day, but today was a GOOD day.
