Camp LifePosted by on August 11, 2016

Today was another gorgeous day. The girls came back from their trip day overnights and had lots of fun adventurous stories to tell about their trip. I have been hearing nothing but positive trip day experiences!

In Dance this morning, I taught a tap/ freestyle to be performed at performance night to the song “what makes you beautiful” by One Direction. I cant wait to see all of my girls onstage with their routines. Each camper has been working very hard on the steps and have showed so much progress within one week of learning the routine.

At lunch, we had chicken kiev with veggies and mash potatoes and it was incredible. The camp food just keeps getting better and better. I am really enjoying the girls I sit with at my table with this week! Getting to sit with a new group of campers every 4-5 days is an amazing way to get to know new campers.

Today I was on O.D. which means on duty. When a counselor is “On Duty” they are responsible for 1 or 2 bunks during Rest Hour and in the evening. Each counselor is placed outside of the bunks and is available if the campers need anything. At night, the counselor is responsible for ensuring that the bunks are at a whisper after Taps, and that they go to bed at the right time. They remain outside until one of the bunk moms sign in for the evening. I was assigned to Penguin, who are the 2nd oldest campers here and it was a very entertaining rest hour. They are busy planning banquet which will occur in a couple days. It’s so amazing that these girls work together to make this one night special for all of camp and honor the seniors. It gives them challenges and shows another side of their leadership. It’s always fun to see what theme they come up with and how much hard work they put in to the evening.

I then had the pleasure to teach Dance production! We are almost done with the hip hop portion of the routine. I’m super proud of the girls for learning and remembering all the choreography I throw their way. They stride and give it all they’ve got. I ended my day of activities with the camp play, Mulan. I am assisting with choreographing the musical and taking notes before their dress rehearsal. I think the girls are ready and cant wait to see them kick butt! We ended our night with campfire as our evening program. I helped host along with counselor Ally. It was a pretty successful day! I love this place. It’s the one place in the world I feel safe and confident and challenged every day! And I never stop learning about myself and these girls through the extraordinary world magic!
