Trip Day TuesdayPosted by on August 10, 2016

Today was another amazing day here at the cove, reveille rang early at 7am because it was TRIP DAY! There was lots of excitement in the air at breakfast as we had our classic French Toast and Syrup.

The campers hustled down to the chick to meet up with their trip groups and sing some songs while they waited for their trip to be called. Lots of amazing trips went out today; our Flamingos headed off to Crab Apple to go white water rafting, an ocean canoeing trip, and berry picking just to name a few.

Today I was trip leader for River Kayaking. This is a new program we have launched this summer and we had 5 amazing girls who participated in a week of training in focuses before heading out to put their newly found skills to the test. We headed to Steep falls on the Saco river for the morning, the girls learned how to break into the current and how to ferry from one side of the river to the other. They all picked it up incredibly quickly and we had very few capsizes. We then paddled down our first real rapid and everyone made it down perfectly and the girls smiles were contagious to watch. We cooled off by jumping into a nice deep pool of water then headed up the van to head to drive down to the Limington rapids further downstream. We sat by the river and enjoyed our lunch before reapplying that sunscreen and jumping back into our boats to paddle down the rapids. Once again the girls all did amazingly well negotiating the rocks and catching the eddies. The river finishes off in a big lake so we all went for a swim to finish the day before packing up the van and heading to get Ice cream.

It was a truly extraordinary trip day and everyone arrived back to the cove exhausted from their adventures but with giant smiles on their faces. Overnights will return in the morning, and I cannot wait to hear the extraordinary adventures they all had!
